Bernkastel is Dirk’s birth place. It is a very beautiful place on the Mosel and the site of the most expensive and well-known of the Riesling wines, the Bernkastel Doktor. It is very popular with tourists and quite crowded most of the times but it’s always lovely to go there and walk around, especially when the tourists are gone 🙂 .
Obviously, we visited it many times since 2001. One of the best time to go there is in October, around harvesting. The vineyards turn yellow and you can get the new young wine 🙂
Bernkastel also has a cute Christmas market that we visited in 2003 and 2017.

One of my favourite trips to the Mosel area, as we went there in October and I could see the harvesting, the wine making, the vineyards turning yellow and stay in a place near Schloss Lieser with a lovely view of the Mosel. See this separate post.
