Schloss Zeil

On our way back from Lindau, we saw a castle on a hill off Route 96. So, on another weekend trip, after first going to see the Ottobeuren abbey and Memmingen, we also visited Schloss Zeil, or more precisely, its gardens. The castle is still owned and inhabited by the Waldburg-Zeil family and it cannot be visited but the gardens are free to visit and they are really pretty, with beautiful views over the hills below. The castle dates from the beginning of 17th century while the gardens have been last designed at the beginning of 20th century. The beautiful water fountain in the inner year was made by Maximilian Rueß, from 1982-1989.

UPDATE: In October we went back to Schloss Zeil, just to enjoy the lovely weather and views. This time we saw much clearer the mountains and we saw the deers! The photos are below.
