National Trust property we first visited in 2009 and then again in 2010. The initial house dated from the 17th century but the estate was last owned by Capt. George Bambridge and his wife, Elsie, Rudyard Kipling’s daughter. The Bambridges bought the estate in 1938 and renovated it primarily using money from Kipling’s inheritance and royalities.
