Burghausen is a very pretty town situated right at the border between Germany and Austria, less than 2 hours away from Munich. It is known for its famous Jazz festival and for the impressive medieval castle/fortress built on top of the hill. It is the longest castle complex in the world, as it spans over 1km. It is also impressively old, as the first mention of the castle is in the beginning of the 11th century! The castle was transferred to the Wittelsbachs in 1168. The town and the castle are definitely worth visiting. It’s also nice to cross the river into Austria and have a different view of the castle from there 🙂
